The Masterworks Series: An All-Solid Wood Luthiery Approach

The Masterworks series emphasizes what makes a difference to the ear and under the fingers: top thickness, wood selection, back design, and especially precise bracing work. The goal is clear: to achieve a responsive, powerful, and defined guitar with an instant response that highlights both playing nuances and more energetic attack. On the MD66ce Shadowburst, the FS6 bracing directly contributes to this sense of ease and clarity by promoting a more vibrant and expressive top.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

The MD66ce Shadowburst is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking an electro-acoustic dreadnought capable of performing well at home, rehearsals, and on stage. Its temperament suits pop/rock, folk, and country rhythms comfortably, while maintaining enough precision for fingerstyle. The wider nut width provides comfortable playability for complex chords and fingerpicking, while the presence of an LR Baggs system makes it a natural ally for amplification.

Sound Characteristics

With its solid mahogany top paired with solid mahogany back and sides, this dreadnought offers a distinctive sound: rich mids, clear attack, rounded bass, and a treble often softer than that of a spruce top. This combination is ideal for achieving a "roots" texture, very clear in a mix, and a pleasant dynamic range when varying playing intensity. The FS6 bracing enhances the immediate response sensation and helps maintain definition, even during sustained strumming. In amplified configuration, the LR Baggs HiFi (two vibration sensors positioned under the bridge and high-fidelity electronics) aims for a natural and balanced output, with great transient precision and very usable dynamics live.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the original feel and balance, plan on a set of D'Addario XSAPB1253 strings (12-53 gauge) identical to the factory setup. A clip-on tuner is also a safe and practical choice, whether you play acoustically or plugged in.
