A Neve Classic Reintroduced into the Modern Analog Chain

Originally designed in 1974, the Neve 2264A established itself as a benchmark with performance close to the 2254, while adopting a more compact format. Long out of production, it remained sought after for its ability to shape dynamics without losing the sense of texture and depth. Today, it returns as a reissue manufactured in England by Neve engineers, with a clear goal: to recapture the historic sonic signature without compromising the authenticity of the circuits.

Who Is the Neve 2264A For and What Are Its Uses?

The 2264A is designed for studios seeking analog compression with character during tracking and mixing. It excels on vocals, bass, snare, guitars, and mono buses that require both control and musicality. Thanks to its D.L.1 format, it integrates naturally into a rack or console compatible with 1073/1084 modules, making it an obvious choice to complement a classic Neve chain with a coherent, powerful, and quick-to-adjust dynamic tool.

Key Features: Control, Routing, and Sonic Signature

Two Independent Dynamic Stages

The Neve 2264A offers separate IN/OUT selectors for the limiter and compressor, allowing adjustment of the response depending on the source: gently tighten dynamics or secure peaks with dedicated limiting. This approach facilitates both tracking workflows and firmer post-production treatments.

Transformers, Bridge-Driver, and Side-Chain: Grain Serving Precision

The presence of transformer-coupled circuits across multiple stages, combined with the bridge-driver design, contributes to the sense of density and the typical dynamic behavior of Neve modules. The result: compression that can remain subtle or, conversely, impart a pronounced color while preserving transient impact.

Direct Bypass, Multi-Unit Linking, and Clear Gain Reduction Metering

The bypass directly connects input terminals to output terminals for immediate comparison. For advanced configurations, multiple units can be linked to control a multi-module side-chain from a single unit. Finally, the analog PPM-style meter (with approximate ballistics) indicates gain reduction from about 0 dB to 20 dB, ideal for quick referencing during tracking.
