The AZUMI Série S: Demanding Standards, Finish, and Sonic Identity

Designed for experienced flutists seeking an instrument as inspiring as it is reliable, the AZUMI Série S emphasizes sound quality, design, and playing flexibility. The core of this approach lies in the handmade Altus headjoint and the S-Cut embouchure, a design choice aimed at expanding the range of expression while providing a more pronounced sense of control and breath resistance.

AZUMI offers here a flute designed to multiply playing situations: orchestra, chamber music, wind ensembles, as well as solo use where projection and timbre personality become decisive. The set is completed by a body and keywork in silver-plated maillechort, providing a coherent compromise between comfort, durability, and aesthetics.

For Which Flutist and Styles?

This flute is primarily intended for advanced and professional musicians who wish to step up in terms of response, intonation, and sonic potential. The presence of hollow keys and a design focused on mechanical stability makes it an excellent choice for flutists working on demanding techniques and an extensive repertoire.

It is particularly comfortable in classical music (orchestra, conservatory, chamber music), but its reactive character and the rich timbre enabled by the S-Cut headjoint also suit contemporary, pop, or wind ensemble contexts very well, whenever precise articulation and wide dynamics are sought.

Sound and Design

The S-Cut headjoint is designed to offer a personal sound and a variety of colors, with a more pronounced breath resistance : an asset for sculpting attacks, stabilizing dynamics, and gaining control in exposed passages. The Altus headjoint in 958 solid silver contributes to a resonant feel and controlled projection, while the lip plate and core in 925 solid silver help balance the overall sound emission.

Ergonomically, the inline configuration (G keys aligned with other tone holes) maintains a direct fingering feel for flutists accustomed to this standard. The hollow keys open the door to advanced effects and techniques such as glissandi, multiphonics, and microtones. Finally, the pointed keywork (pointed arms) promotes better mechanism stability and a solid feel over time, highly appreciated in intensive use.

Depending on the chosen version, the B footjoint allows extending the range by a half step downward, a concrete musical advantage for certain orchestral passages and additional comfort in the low register.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the response and longevity of the mechanism, it is recommended to use a flute swab (drying after playing), a microfiber cloth to limit marks on the silver-plated maillechort, as well as a flute stand to secure the instrument during rehearsals and concerts.
