A B&C Coaxial Designed for Demanding Compact Speakers

The B&C 8 FCX 51 fits into the logic of coaxial transducers aimed at optimizing the size/performance ratio. The principle is simple and highly effective: combining a bass/midrange speaker and a high-frequency driver on the same axis to approach a "point source" dispersion. The result: a more uniform response, better blending of registers, and more controlled directivity in reduced speaker formats.

This type of configuration is particularly appreciated when a precise rendering is sought in compact enclosures, without multiplying drivers or complicating phase alignment between channels.

Who Is the B&C 8 FCX 51 For?

This 8-inch coaxial speaker is intended for manufacturers, integrators, and DIY audio enthusiasts who want to build or repair a professional-level compact sound reinforcement speaker. It is very suitable for projects where midrange clarity, presence of highs, and consistent coverage are priorities: stage monitors, small front speakers, auxiliary systems, nearfield speakers for live performances, or fixed installations in bars, clubs, multipurpose rooms, and places of worship.

Thanks to its high sensitivity (especially in HF) and its declared 100-degree coverage, it facilitates achieving clear and projected sound, even when the speaker must remain discreet in size.

Coaxial Design: Precision, Coherence, and Controlled Coverage

The Key Benefit of Coaxial: Soundstage Coherence

By placing the HF section at the center of the LF speaker, the 8 FCX 51 promotes a natural transition between registers. This architecture helps maintain a stable perception of voices and instruments, with more precise localization and better homogeneity when moving in front of the system. It is a tangible advantage for monitors and compact speakers, where one wants to avoid the "holes" in coverage typical of some multi-driver configurations.

1.7-inch HF Motorization and High Efficiency

The high-frequency section is based on a 1.7-inch (44 mm) HF voice coil and a polyamide diaphragm. With a declared HF sensitivity of 104 dB (1w/1m), this coaxial is designed to deliver present and detailed highs while maintaining good dynamic headroom in an 8-inch format. The separate 8 + 8 ohms impedance (LF + HF) allows handling both channels according to the speaker architecture (appropriate crossover required).

Bass/Midrange: Mechanical Endurance and Reliable Operation

The LF section uses a 2-inch (51 mm) copper wire voice coil, combined with a dual-roll suspension. The Xmax excursion of 6.5 mm and resonance frequency Fs of 69 Hz orient this model towards efficient compact enclosures, with a response that favors impact and cleanliness in the lower midrange. The exponential cone with waterproof treatment on the front adds extra resistance to usage constraints (transport, ambient humidity, stage conditions).
