The Mega Tone Series: Bach's Approach Between Tradition and Modern Demands

The history of Bach is inseparable from that of Vincent Bach, musician and engineer, who began manufacturing mouthpieces in New York in 1918, before developing a reputation for excellence that became a benchmark among brass players. Bach instruments, notably under the "Stradivarius" label, have established themselves through their manufacturing standards and distinctive sound identity, and this same philosophy is reflected in the brand's mouthpieces.

Within the range, Mega Tone stands out by a simple but decisive choice: significantly increasing the mass of the mouthpiece. The result: a more "grounded" feel on the instrument, a stable response, and a often darker color, while retaining Bach's DNA: projection, precision, and consistency.

For Which Musician and Styles?

This Bach Mega Tone mouthpiece is aimed at musicians who want a solid, centered sound and reliable intonation : common expectations from intermediate level players, and especially advanced/professional players performing in demanding contexts (orchestra, brass ensemble, big band, brass band, popular music).

Thanks to its moderately narrow cup and moderately wide rim (comfortable without being too angular), it suits those seeking a good balance between endurance, clarity, and volume. If you like to "fill the room" effortlessly and maintain a clean sound when dynamics increase, the Mega Tone approach is particularly relevant.

Tone and Design

The design of a mouthpiece directly influences ease of play and tone color: the cup (its shape and depth) affects timbre and resistance feel, the rim impacts comfort and endurance, and the throat (air passage diameter at the throat) contributes to freedom of sound production and sound stability. Here, the cup with a diameter of 24.75 mm aims for a broad playing style, with significant volume and natural presence.

The Mega Tone series, with its increased mass, promotes more stable projection and a sensation of "locked" notes, useful for intonation in exposed registers. You get a generally darker sound, but the stated balance also allows beautiful brightness when air speeds up and the attack becomes more pronounced. The silver-plated finish provides a classic feel under the lips and good daily durability.

Note : the mention of small bore indicates compatibility designed for instruments with a more direct feel (often more responsive), and the 402 shank corresponds to a specific shank standard. To avoid any mistakes, verify compatibility with your instrument (receiver/crook).

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve response and hygiene without compatibility risk, you can add a mouthpiece brush (internal cleaning), a microfiber cloth for the silver finish, and a universal mouthpiece pouch/case to prevent shocks inside your instrument case or gig bag.
