Sonata quasi una Fantasia for Pianoforte in E-flat major, C-sharp minor op. 27/1+2 "Moonlight Sonata" brings together the two sonatas of Opus 27, in which Beethoven, at the turn of the 19th century, opens new formal and expressive perspectives by designating them as "sonata quasi una fantasia." This approach frees the traditional architecture and highlights the narrative flow, contrasts, and harmonic color.
Sonata No. 2, which became world-famous under the nickname "Moonlight Sonata," is paired here with Sonata No. 1: an essential duo of the great piano repertoire, ideal for working on voice leading, management of sound layers, articulation, and the depth of Beethovenian phrasing.
