Composed shortly before the premature death of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, the Stabat mater quickly established itself as one of the most famous pieces of sacred music. Its success was such that it circulated in many forms (copies, prints, arrangements) and even inspired Johann Sebastian Bach, who created a German adaptation based on Psalm 51. This lasting renown still makes it a preferred score for concert programs, educational projects, and Baroque style study.
