A classic analog filter revisited for the pedalboard

The BM-11M follows the tradition of analog low-pass filters with a "vintage" character, inspired by a cult filter from the 1990s: the Moog MF-101. It features this musical approach to filtering, with resonance capable of ranging from subtle harmonic emphasis to more acidic and vocal peaks, while maintaining a solid low end and a typically analog feel.

Thanks to its 2-pole and 4-pole modes, the BM-11M covers two signatures: a softer, more open filtering (2-pole) or a tighter, more radical effect (4-pole). This is a very effective way to go from a discreet "polish" on a clean sound to a complete transformation on textures, synths, or beats.

Who is it for, which styles, and in what situations?

The Behringer BM-11M is aimed equally at guitarists and bassists as well as users of synths, drum machines, and line sources. If you like sounds that move, textures that breathe, and effects that respond to your playing, this is an ideal pedal: funk, alternative rock, electro, ambient, post-rock, dub, hip-hop, film music... anything that benefits from filter movement will immediately gain from it.

In the studio, it becomes a simple and fast sound design tool: filtering an overly bright track, adding rhythmic resonance, "closing" a sound to make room in the mix, or creating natural rises without using plugins. Live, it provides a very instinctive expressive gesture, especially if you use the envelope follower or external control (expression/CV) to drive the cutoff frequency in real time.

Controls, modes, and external control: a pedal designed for creativity

The heart of the BM-11M is its analog low-pass filter with Cutoff (20 Hz to 12 kHz) and Resonance to emphasize the cutoff frequency. The 2-pole / 4-pole selector changes the filter slope: more gradual to keep naturalness, or steeper for a more pronounced effect. The Drive knob adjusts the input gain to thicken the signal and generate a richer harmonic response, while Mix allows you to blend the filtered signal with the dry signal to retain attack, definition, or bass depending on your instrument.

For dynamic playing, the envelope makes all the difference: Amount controls how strongly the incoming signal opens or closes the filter. The Smooth / Fast switch adjusts the envelope response: smoother for fluid waves, or faster for percussive, nervous "quack" effects. For integration, the pedal offers a MIDI In (5-pin DIN, 16 channels) and highlights USB/MIDI control for advanced management and automation. It also features control inputs in 6.35mm TRS jack format (Cutoff, Mix, Reso, Amount) as well as an Env Out output to use the envelope signal in a broader setup (advanced pedalboard, synths, external modulations).

Sound Character

The BM-11M delivers a warm, round, and organic filtering, with resonance that can remain elegant to sculpt the upper spectrum or become very expressive for synth-style sweeps. In 2-pole mode, the feel is more "musical" and airy, perfect for adding movement without losing all the brightness. In 4-pole mode, the filter becomes deeper with a sharper cutoff: ideal for filtered intros, drops, or "studio wah" type effects controlled by the envelope.

Dynamics are a strong point: by adjusting Drive and Amount, the pedal can go from a simple tonal contour to a very lively effect that follows the right hand, pick intensity, or level variations of a drum machine. The Mix helps maintain impact and clarity, especially on bass, saturated sounds, or when resonance is pushed.
