A Reference Crossover to Structure a Sound Reinforcement System

The CX3400 is designed to meet the demands of live sound installations and studio setups focused on powerful monitoring, where simple "by ear" filtering is no longer sufficient. By placing frequency band separation at the core of your signal chain, it enhances the overall system coherence and allows you to make the most of your amplifiers and speakers. Its low-noise circuits, combined with a field-oriented processing architecture, make it a reliable choice to secure sound reinforcement, from rehearsals to live shows, as well as fixed installations.

Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?

This active crossover is intended for users working with multi-amplified systems: bi-amped speakers, 2-way setups with subwoofers, or more advanced configurations requiring precise routing. It is ideal if you seek tighter bass, clearer vocals, and improved intelligibility at high volume levels. The Mute and phase inversion switches also facilitate quick system diagnostics, a real advantage during performances and mixing.

Key Features for Quick Setup and Effective Protection

Linkwitz-Riley Filtering and Subwoofer Band Control

The CX3400 features Linkwitz-Riley filters with a 24 dB per octave slope, appreciated for cleaner summation at the crossover point. The subwoofer frequency range is adjustable separately, helping you precisely tailor the sub/top crossover according to your speakers and room.

Setup Tools: Delay, Phase, Mute

The adjustable delay allows aligning transducers to regain sharper attack and better-centered bass. Phase inverters and band-specific Mute switches speed up testing and troubleshooting without disconnecting the setup. Status LEDs provide immediate feedback, even in a rack.

Speaker Protection and HF Optimization

Limiters on all outputs help safeguard critical components, while the switchable 25 Hz low-pass filter limits unwanted infrasonics. The high-frequency (HF) horn equalization compensates for constant directivity, delivering a more controlled top end depending on the speakers used. Finally, the mono "Low Sum" output (in stereo modes) simplifies subwoofer applications by combining bass signals into a dedicated output.
