An "acoustic friendly" DI in the spirit of classic standards
Amplifying an acoustic guitar equipped with a piezo can quickly become a balancing act: too many harsh highs, a lack of low-mid body, and sometimes feedback when the volume is turned up. The ADI21 was precisely designed for this reality, combining an active DI and an analog "mic/tube" modeling that provides a more organic and "recorded" feel.
Within the Behringer range, the ADI21 belongs to the "Driver DI" family focused on preamp + direct output (similar to models dedicated to electric guitar or bass). Its goal: to allow you to go directly into a mixing console, audio interface, or PA system, with a warmer sound than a purely neutral DI.

Controls and functions: simple but very effective
The ADI21 focuses on immediate ergonomics: you adjust the output level with Level, shape the overall balance with the EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble), and precisely target the problematic area with Mid Freq (semi-parametric mids). This is exactly what you need to reduce body resonance, tame a piezo "quack," or add presence without becoming harsh.
The Blend control lets you dial in the amount of "mic/tube" modeling in your signal: from a subtle effect (just a bit of glue) to a more pronounced, rounder, and more "produced" color. The footswitch manages the dual DI mode: either use the emulation for direct recording or switch to bypass to use it as a standard active DI.
For convenience, there is a very useful Ground Lift switch to eliminate hum caused by ground loops. To fit in anywhere, the output is available in 6.35mm TS unbalanced jack and 3-pin XLR balanced (gold-plated contacts), allowing you to connect to an acoustic amp, front-of-house console, or audio interface as you prefer.
Sound
The sonic signature of the ADI21 aims for a warm and present result, rounding off overly dry transients and reducing the typical harshness of many piezos. The sound remains clear enough to preserve the grain and articulation of fingerstyle playing, while adding a more "natural" side, as if the instrument were better showcased in a mix.
Its dynamics respond well to nuances: playing softer yields a smoother, more controlled attack; playing harder delivers a denser feel without uncontrolled saturation. With the EQ and mid frequency control, you can shift from a bright and defined acoustic (ideal for strumming) to a rounder, more centered tone (perfect for arpeggios, fingerpicking, or acoustic lead parts).
