Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
The Big Fat Octopus belongs to the family of effect accessories designed to expand the sonic palette of cymbals without permanent modification. It meets a simple need: to achieve a dirtier, livelier, and more "vintage" character on a hi-hat or crash/ride cymbal in seconds, with maximum flexibility.
Who This Drum/Instrument Is For
Designed for drummers from beginners to advanced, the Big Fat Octopus is suitable for both studio and stage use. It is particularly relevant in rock, garage, punk, indie, funk, and for any aesthetic seeking "lo-fi" textures or stack/jingle-type accents, while maintaining a simple setup on your kit.
Features and Innovations
Thanks to its very lightweight plastic ring, the accessory easily fits onto the hi-hat or a cymbal to generate an immediate effect, then can be removed just as quickly. Its strength lies in its reversibility : played one way or the other, it changes how the jingles respond to the strike, allowing you to adjust the level of "trash," definition, and feel under the stick.
Sound
The steel jingles provide a dry brightness and a very clear "jingle," with a grittier attack and a dirtier feel than the natural sound of the cymbal alone. On a hi-hat, you gain a more textured chick and more aggressive openings; on a cymbal (crash/ride), the effect adds percussive harmonics and a "trashy" signature that stands out well, especially in accented passages.
- The ultra-lightweight plastic ring brings out the sound of the jingles clearly.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Big Fat Snare Drum Octopus BFSD compatible with a hi-hat?
Its lightweight plastic ring sits on a hi-hat and adds a more textured chick with more aggressive openings.
What sound do the steel jingles produce?
The steel jingles produce a bright and dry jingle. The attack gains more grain, with a dirtier character than the cymbal alone.
Can it be used on a crash or ride cymbal?

Is the effect changeable depending on the placement direction?
Played one way or the other, the ring modifies how the jingles react to hits and adjusts the level of trash as well as definition.
For which drumming styles is this accessory suited?
This steel jingle configuration suits rock, garage, punk, indie, and funk aesthetics, as well as lo-fi or stack/jingle type textures.
