Summary of This Score

This Triptych is part of a commission and dedication process: Serge Daval initiated it and premiered it in Paris at the Salle Cortot in 1978. This "concert" genesis gives the music a true sense of projection, with writing designed to be heard, breathed, and carried by the performer.

The score unfolds in three clearly characterized sections. The Prelude evokes the universe of Franck Martin through its concentration, harmonic stability, and controlled lyricism. Next comes the Incantation, marked by a latent energy : one can recognize the influence of André Jolivet in the rhythmic tension and sonic gesture, which already assert a strong personality, all the more remarkable given that the composer was only 18 years old at the time.

Finally, the closing Dance asserts an irresistible momentum, with a nod to Paul Hindemith : a sense of movement, structure, propulsion, and a character that wins over the listener. This Triptych also hints at traits that will later appear in the writing of Ivane Béatrice Bellocq, notably in later works such as Estrans (a Radio-France commission), and more broadly in a catalog where the clarinet holds a privileged place.
