Summary of This Score

Composed between October 2021 and May 2022, this Sonata for solo violin Op.16 is structured in three movements, each associated with a specific artistic personality. The first movement, dedicated to Jacques Ghestem, is based on a sensation of freedom and spontaneous breath, in the spirit of a rhapsody, with fine work on harmony and instrumental gestures tailored for its dedicatee. This movement also bears the imprint of profound musical transmission, nourished by pedagogy, listening, and a passion for contemporary music.

The second movement, written for David Grimal, takes the form of a slow, suspended, and rhapsodic movement. The inspiration arises from long-standing admiration and a lived experience on stage, reinforced by the expressive world of the violinist and by the idea sparked during a concert at the Philharmonie de Paris in January 2022 centered on Ysaÿe. The finale, dedicated to Sarah Nemtanu, extends the human and musical momentum of a meeting at Radio France in September 2021, during the recording of Divertimento Op.15: a movement carried by the light of an artistic exchange, where writing and interpretation respond to each other. The whole forms a demanding and inspired score, ideal for the violinist seeking narration, timbres, and expressive depth in solo performance.
