The composer and the person who commissioned the work then discover three orange cakes with very different textures, which become the starting point for a three-movement piece.

The first movement evokes a cake with a doughy consistency, with writing that can suggest the density, suppleness and a certain resistance of the sound material. The second is inspired by a particularly stringy pastry, inviting the performer to bring expressive, stretched or shifting lines to life. The final movement, devoted to a completely spongy cake, introduces another color and a striking contrast in the progression of the work.

Through this succession of tableaux, the clarinet becomes a true storytelling tool.
