Overview of this method
Developed through pedagogical reflection in the field, La flûte en éveil meets the needs of children who wish to start learning the flute at an increasingly young age. The goal is clear: to offer a simple, age-appropriate resource while remaining fully musical, helping to maintain motivation and encouraging a comfortable playing posture.
The method is divided into 20 lessons following a carefully structured learning approach, with steady progression focused on the young flutist’s development and well-being. The first three lessons focus on the embouchure, an essential stage for developing breath control, tone quality and mastery of the first sensations without an excessive technical workload.
Each subsequent lesson follows the same format, which is particularly effective for developing independence: on the left-hand page, the student discovers the basic techniques (guidelines, fingerings, articulation and coordination). On the right-hand page, they immediately put them into practice through a children’s nursery rhyme in duet, a duettino and a piece to play with piano accompaniment, with the accompaniments written by Gilles Martin. This alternation between “technique and music” develops accuracy while preserving the enjoyment of the repertoire.
To make practice at home and during lessons easier, the piano accompaniments for the compositions in “Your Turn to Play!” are collected in the enclosed booklet, and a CD completes the package. An ideal method for building solid foundations, developing listening skills and introducing ensemble playing and accompaniment from an early stage.
