Summary of this method
Don't Forget Your Instrument! is a five-volume Music Training series designed to support students throughout a long-term progression, from the end of Cycle I through to the end of Cycle II. The organization into lessons called Opus provides a clear and reassuring framework, while leaving plenty of room for the pleasure of playing through activities with distinct identities.
Each Opus brings together several complementary areas: Prélude for instrumental warm-ups, Cantabile focusing on singing, Intermezzo for transcription and transposition, Con spirito for theory, analysis and understanding, and Tutti for ensemble playing. This structure encourages independence, helps teachers plan lessons, and enables students to understand “why” they are working on each skill.
The series covers all the components of a complete curriculum: reading, singing, rhythm, ear training, writing, theory, analysis and musical culture. The method stands out through original activities that place the instrument at the heart of learning: a variety of playing situations, learning through improvisation, discovering harmony notably through the keyboard, and performing as a soloist, in a duo or as part of an ensemble.
The content draws on a wide variety of styles, from Baroque to jazz, combining repertoire works with original pieces.
