Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The Unity Bass U60 fits within Blackstar's Unity philosophy: offering a transistor bass amp that retains an "organic" feel and great versatility, without complicating usage. In the lineup, it is the combo designed for the bassist who wants a serious practice amp and a small rehearsal amp, with sufficiently complete connectivity to handle home, studio, and small gigs, while remaining simple to dial in.

Who This Amp Is For

The Unity Bass U60 targets both demanding beginner bassists and intermediate/advanced musicians looking for a reliable, easy-to-transport 60W bass combo capable of covering multiple styles. It is particularly comfortable for home practice (MP3/line input and headphone output), rehearsals (headroom and precise EQ), and small performances or stage reinforcement via the Link output to a Unity active cabinet. Style-wise, it effortlessly covers rock, pop, funk, reggae, soul, and modern jazz, with drive available for edgier textures.

Features and Innovations

The strength of the U60 is its "plug and play" approach without sacrificing control. You have an input gain with clip indicator to set a clean margin (or push preamp gain), an attenuator for active instruments to avoid clipping, then a master volume to adjust overall level. The three voicings (Classic/Modern/Overdrive) serve as immediate starting points, then the 3-band EQ and semi-parametric mid let you fine-tune: scoop for slap, thicken low-mids for rock tone, or open highs for more articulation. Finally, the chorus and overdrive can be footswitch-activated to switch from a clean verse to a bigger or dirtier chorus without letting go of your instrument.

The Sound

Built around a transistor architecture, the Unity Bass U60 emphasizes fast attack, clean lows, and good clarity, while offering a refined playing feel through its voicings. In "Classic," you get a rounded low end, ideal for fingerstyle lines and vintage tones. The "Modern" voice delivers a tighter response, more precision, and a sound that highlights attacks (useful for pop, funk, modern metal). The "Overdrive" voice adds a rougher grain, helpful to thicken a trio, bring out a riff, or get musical saturation without pedals. The built-in compressor helps stabilize dynamics (ghost notes, slap, pick), while the chorus widens the sound for more atmospheric passages or ballads. The custom 10-inch speaker favors definition and punch: perfect for keeping low-mids clear in rehearsal and a clean sound on headphone/line out.
