What Blue Cat Remote Control Is For
Blue Cat Remote Control is designed to centralize control of your virtual studio by creating a custom interface to manipulate multiple audio/MIDI parameters, whether from plug-ins (synths, effects, virtual instruments) or external hardware (expander modules, processors, control surfaces, MIDI racks). Instead of navigating through dozens of sometimes awkward interfaces, you build your own control "desk": the essentials remain at hand, arranged logically for your session.
It is particularly useful for mixing (volume control, sends, filters, dynamics), sound design (morphing between states, macro control), electronic production (controller mapping, pads, and faders), and live setups where clear, fast, and recallable control is needed, while still allowing recording of movements as automation.
Main Features
A Fully Customizable Control Surface
The principle of Remote Control is simple: you select the types of controls and meters you need (faders, potentiometers, pads, switches, joysticks, etc.), then assign each a MIDI channel and controller number. For faithful response matching your playing and hardware, you can adjust the response curve of each control, shifting from linear to more gradual or sharper behavior depending on context (volume fader, cutoff, dry/wet mix, etc.).
Advanced MIDI Control, Monitoring, and Routing
Remote Control is not limited to control: it can also monitor parameters and act as a MIDI hub. Since it can itself be controlled via MIDI, it becomes an excellent tool for remapping and transforming messages (from one CC to another, channel changes, curve adaptations), to unify the behavior of heterogeneous controllers or adapt a device to multiple instruments and effects.
Compatibility with extended MIDI events (notes, pitch bend, NRPN, 14-bit CC, aftertouch, channel pressure) enhances fine control possibilities, especially with expressive keyboards and modern surfaces. The MIDI thru function also allows MIDI events to pass through the plug-in, maintaining a coherent MIDI chain in your DAW.
Automation, Instant Recall, and Non-Destructive Editing
For a modern workflow, Remote Control supports automation and can convert automation lanes into MIDI CC messages, useful for controlling external devices or triggering creative interactions between tracks. You can also record output parameters as automation curves or send CCs to other plug-ins to set up "driven" sidechain behaviors (without relying on a dedicated interface per plug-in).
Work remains comfortable thanks to Undo/Redo, a comprehensive preset manager, and the ability to copy/paste the plug-in state between instances, speeding up template creation and control consistency on large projects.
Modernized Interface (v3.2) and Layout Creation
Version 3.2 introduces a redesigned interface that allows you to create your own grid layouts directly within the interface, and select your controls from more than 40 types with new high-resolution graphics. "Momentary pad" controls facilitate temporary actions (momentary mute, triggering, A/B testing), while background color customization helps quickly identify each instance in complex projects.
On Windows, multitouch enables simultaneous manipulation of multiple controls. Finally, tone maps offer morphing between presets to create smooth transitions and invent new control "states," particularly useful for progressive variations live or scene evolutions in production.
Skins and Extension via KUIML
To adapt to your working style, Remote Control offers ready-to-use skins and allows you to go further with the KUIML language, to design an interface truly dedicated to your setup: macro controls, control pages per instrument, mix sections, or simplified panels for recording sessions.

Questions frequently asked
Is Blue Cat Audio Remote Control compatible with Mac and Windows?
Compatibility includes macOS 10.9 or later, on both Intel and Apple Silicon processors. Supported formats are VST-2, VST-3, AU, and AAX on Mac, and VST-2, VST-3, and AAX on Windows.
Can a custom MIDI surface with faders and pads be created?
More than 40 types of controls are available, including faders, knobs, pads, switches, and joysticks, with grid creation directly in the interface.
Which MIDI messages can be remapped?
Support includes MIDI CC, notes, pitch bend, NRPN, 14-bit CC, aftertouch, and channel pressure. Each control can receive a MIDI channel and controller number, with adjustable response curves. The MIDI thru function allows events to pass through the plug-in.
Can Remote Control send automation to MIDI devices?
Automation curves can be converted into MIDI CC messages to control external equipment. Output parameters can also be recorded as automation or sent to other plug-ins.
Is morphing between presets available?
Tone maps in version 3.2 enable morphing between presets to create smooth transitions between different control states. The plug-in state can also be copied and pasted between instances.
