What Blue Cat Spinal Vibe Is For

Blue Cat Spinal Vibe is an effect plug-in designed to recreate and surpass the behavior of a rotary speaker in the studio. It is used both to add movement to an organ, electric piano, or guitar, and to transform modern sources (pads, synths, drums, vocals) by providing spatialization and organic modulations. Thanks to the dry/wet mix and multi-speaker management, it also enables the creation of complex phasing and chorus effects, ranging from subtle stereo widening to highly animated textures.

Main Features

Up to 3 rotors for deeper modulation

Unlike traditional emulations focused on a single rotor/horn set, Spinal Vibe offers up to three rotary speakers. Each can be individually adjusted, facilitating the creation of layered movements, a wider stereo "swirl," or a particularly lively multi-source effect.

Complete rotation control (speed, curve, inertia)

Each speaker has dedicated parameters for speed (from slow to fast with intermediate values) and dynamic behavior: customizable acceleration and deceleration to replicate the realistic inertia of a mechanical system or, conversely, to achieve snappier transitions. The Brake control allows instant rotation stop, ideal for breaks or sharp rhythmic effects.

A "musical" and synchronizable rotary

The rotation can be tempo-synced to your DAW, convenient for precisely aligning the movement with electronic productions, arpeggios, or drum patterns. You can also adjust the phase of each speaker to align (or misalign) the movement and directly influence the perceived width, attack, and groove of the modulation.

Sound shaping: Doppler, tremolo, and filter

Spinal Vibe allows separate control of key rotary components: Doppler effect (pitch variation/perception), tremolo (amplitude modulation), and filtering/attenuation (dampening). This "à la carte" approach helps transition from a smooth, rounded vintage sound to a more modern, pronounced, or even experimental effect.

Advanced stereo, dry/wet mix, and phase effects

Each speaker features independent stereo control and volume adjustment, enabling precise balancing of the soundstage. By mixing the dry signal with one or more rotary signals, you can achieve phasing effects through phase cancellation, perfect for creating moving textures and depth effects without cluttering the arrangement.

Quick timbre exploration and optimized performance

The Tone Maps explorer helps you quickly find new colors. On the performance side, the plug-in offers multicore processing and smart CPU optimization: no load at rest, processing automatically stops during silence, ideal for dense sessions.
