Summary of This Score

This score offers a journey through six scenes inspired by mythological tales, each centered on a character and a metamorphosis. First, there is Pan, associated with the reed flute born from Syrinx, then Phaeton, carried away by the solar chariot's course before his fall into the Padus River. The third piece evokes Niobe, frozen in endless mourning after the loss of her fourteen children, while Bacchus sets a noisy festive atmosphere, filled with voices, laughter, and commotion. Next comes Narcissus, fascinated by his own reflection until he becomes a flower, followed by Arethusa, pursued by Alpheus and transformed into a spring.

Throughout these pages, the writing emphasizes musical narration: contrasts of mood, shifts in atmosphere, articulation, and dynamics serving the imagery. It is an excellent resource for working on interpretation (breathing of phrases, tensions and releases, management of transitions) while maintaining a strong poetic dimension. A particularly relevant suite to enrich a program, explore opposing characters, and refine musicality.
