A Cult Metal Zone, Revisited Waza Craft Style

Introduced in 1991, the MT-2 Metal Zone established itself as a benchmark for high gain distortion pedals thanks to its thick saturation and characteristic mids, as well as an exceptionally advanced EQ section for a compact pedal. With the MT-2W, BOSS takes this iconic concept and optimizes it with Waza Craft expertise: carefully selected discrete components, reworked dual-stage gain circuit, and refined EQ for improved clarity, smoother mids, and greater versatility.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

The BOSS MT-2W is aimed at guitarists seeking a metal distortion pedal capable of covering much more than a single range. It excels in heavy rhythms (low tunings, fast palm-muting), sharp leads, and modern high gain tones requiring tight lows. In the studio, its parametric EQ helps position the guitar precisely in the mix; live, it offers massive gain reserves while remaining controllable on a pedalboard.

Modes, Controls, and Design: Everything to Sculpt High Gain

The Standard/Custom switch allows instant adaptation of the response: Standard retains the Metal Zone DNA with more attack, definition, and less noise; Custom opens the bandwidth for a wider, more dynamic sound with tighter lows and a more open high end. Controls include a DIST knob for gain amount, a LEVEL knob, and a full EQ section: LOW, HIGH, MIDDLE, and MID FREQ (mid frequency selection for boost/cut). Buffered bypass and premium buffer ensure a clean signal even when the pedal is off.

The Sound

The MT-2W delivers a dense, aggressive, and highly sculptable distortion: you can go from a compressed wall of gain to a more open and defined high gain simply by adjusting the mode and EQ. The parametric mids are key to shifting from a modern "scooped" sound to guitars that immediately cut through the mix. In Custom mode, the lows remain full but more defined, and the pedal responds well to guitar volume changes to brighten the tone without losing its foundation.
