Buffet Crampon B12 Bb (17 Keys) - BC2540N-5-0GB

An Iconic Buffet Crampon Model Designed for Learning

For decades, Buffet Crampon has held an essential place in the clarinet world. The B12 has established itself as a true standard for study: an instrument designed to accompany the first steps with easy sound production and simple ergonomics to master. This version emphasizes practicality: lighter, more resistant, and particularly suited to daily constraints (transport, rehearsals, marching band, lessons). It is aimed both at students seeking a reliable foundation and at already trained musicians looking for an "all-terrain" clarinet for outdoor use, travel, or intensive contexts.

Who It's For and Suitable Styles

The Buffet Crampon B12 is primarily suited for beginners (children, teenagers, and adults) who want to progress on a comfortable, stable, and easy-to-maintain Bb clarinet. Its design also makes it a relevant option for intermediate musicians playing in music schools, wind ensembles, or amateur orchestras, as well as for advanced amateurs and semi-professionals seeking a backup instrument. In terms of repertoire, it is well suited to classical music (intonation and tone work), pop, film music, and marching band/wind ensemble, especially when a reliable clarinet is needed in all conditions.

Sound and Design

Thanks to its ABS polymer body, the B12 offers a lightweight and secure grip, particularly appreciated by younger players. ABS is a material known for its shock resistance and stability against humidity: it limits issues related to temperature and moisture changes, helping to maintain a stable instrument daily. Musically, the goal is clear: easy sound production, quick response, and sufficient homogeneity to build fundamentals (attack, tone control, fingerings, articulations). The 442 Hz tuning corresponds to the modern pitch standard commonly encountered, facilitating ensemble integration. The nickel-plated maillechort keywork (a robust copper alloy) adds mechanical strength and a reassuring feel under the fingers, while the blued steel springs contribute to consistent and durable action. The bladder pads, common on student clarinets, help ensure the necessary airtightness for stable sound production and better intonation control.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To get the most out of your B12 from the first weeks, you can plan for Bb clarinet reeds (choose a strength suited to your level and mouthpiece), as well as a clarinet swab for regular drying after each session: two essentials universally compatible with a Bb clarinet.
