Essential Information About the Martin 000-28 Golden Era Guitar

  • All solid wood construction with Sitka spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides

  • Golden Era X-bracing scalloped for a more "vintage" response, increased resonance, and generous sustain

  • Traditional dovetail neck joint for excellent vibration transfer

  • Modern comfort: Modified Low Oval neck profile and a thinner fingerboard with slightly beveled edges

A Martin Icon Revisited in the Golden Era Spirit

Part of the Standard series, the 000-28 Golden Era embodies Martin's historic DNA: handcrafted in Nazareth (Pennsylvania), solid woods, and classic lutherie methods. This version emphasizes details inspired by vintage instruments, featuring Golden Era bracing and design choices aimed at enhancing projection, dynamics, and playability, while preserving the iconic "Style 28" look (rosette and purflings, herringbone, traditional inlays).

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

With its 000 body size (body-neck joint at the 14th fret), this Martin targets the intermediate to expert guitarist seeking an expressive acoustic, comfortable for seated playing, and particularly well-suited for fingerstyle, folk, blues, singer-songwriter accompaniment, and nuanced pick playing. Its Modified Low Oval neck profile supports long playing sessions, while the 000 format balance facilitates precise handling and dynamic playing.

Sound Characteristics

The solid Sitka spruce top delivers clarity, attack, and a wide dynamic range, ideal for transitioning from light playing to more aggressive strumming. The solid East Indian rosewood back and sides enhance bass depth, harmonic richness, and overall breadth, with silky highs and natural sustain.

The Golden Era scalloped X-bracing emphasizes the "living" top sensation: the guitar breathes more, with more open resonance and quick response, especially appreciated in fingerpicking and fingerstyle playing. The dovetail neck joint, combined with the bone nut and saddle and ebony bridge, contributes to efficient vibration transfer for precise projection and excellent note sustain.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To stay as close as possible to the original setup, choose a set of Martin SP Acoustic 92/8 Phosphor Bronze Light strings (CMA MSP4100), identical to those installed at the factory.
