A Martin Custom Shop Born in Nazareth: the "Golden Era" Spirit in a 000 Format

This CS 000 Adirondack Spruce/Rosewood is the result of work carried out directly in Nazareth, Pennsylvania (USA), within the Martin Guitar Custom Shop. The idea is clear: to offer a highly musical 000, with a selection of premium woods and lutherie choices inspired by Martin's great eras, notably through a carved "Golden Era" X bracing. Within the range, it positions itself as a characterful acoustic, designed for guitarists who want an immediate response, a wide spectrum, and a true sonic personality, while maintaining the ergonomics of a 000 body.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

Thanks to its 000 format, this guitar targets musicians seeking an excellent balance between comfort and projection. It is particularly suitable for intermediate to expert guitarists who want an acoustic sensitive to touch, capable of translating right-hand nuances and attack variations without collapsing.

Regarding styles, the 000 is a very versatile playground: fingerstyle (note articulation and separation), folk and vocal accompaniment (natural balance), but also flatpicking and more forceful playing. The long scale length (25.47") adds a bit more tension and definition, practical for standard tunings and maintaining a nice hold in the low end.

Sound and Lutherie: Attack, Depth, and Sustain

The combination of Adirondack spruce top and Indian rosewood back/sides is a high-end classic for those seeking reserve and breadth. Adirondack is renowned for its wide dynamic range: it handles strong attacks, retains clarity when played loudly, and offers a very lively response on transients (the "attack" of the note). Indian rosewood provides a deeper bass foundation, rich harmonics, and a sustain that adds width to chords.

The core of responsiveness also lies in the bracing: here, we find a carved "Golden Era" X bracing with Adirondack spruce bars. This type of carving favors a more flexible top, resulting in a guitar that "speaks" quickly, with a natural sense of breath and projection. The result: full but clear lows, singing mids (valuable for picking), and highs that remain bright without becoming harsh.

The 000 format reinforces this sense of balance: you get a solid low end without the exuberance of a dreadnought, and a often more present midrange, which helps the guitar stand out in an acoustic mix or behind a voice. Finishing details (Herringbone top purfling, Paua fiber/pearl rosette, faux tortoise shell pickguard) emphasize the "big Martin" character while maintaining a sober and elegant aesthetic.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the original feel and balance, replacing strings with Martin Authentic Lifespan 2.0 Light is ideal. For daily protection, a hygrometer and a case humidifier are safe choices for a high-end acoustic, and a set of picks with different thicknesses will allow exploring the full dynamic palette of the Adirondack top.
