A Contemporary D-19 to Celebrate 190 Years of Martin History
This D-19 190th Anniversary pays tribute to Martin's origins and a strong idea: turning an aesthetic constraint into a strength. Like the D-19 launched in 1976 as a "premium" D-18 with a stained top, this modern edition reinterprets the concept with Adirondack spruce tops sourced from stock, showing visual imperfections. The result: a dreadnought with a unique character, both rooted in Martin tradition and oriented toward a more responsible approach to resources.
For Whom and Which Styles?
With its dreadnought format and long scale length, this acoustic guitar is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking power, note sustain, and dynamic response. It excels in folk, country, bluegrass, acoustic rock, and vocal accompaniment, while remaining precise in fingerpicking when played lighter. The nut width of 44.45 mm also favors comfortable fingerstyle playing, especially for complex chords.
Sound
The Adirondack spruce top is renowned for its power reserve and excellent response when played hard: it delivers a crisp attack, plenty of volume, and a good headroom before saturation. The forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing enhances projection and bass openness, providing the typical "breath" of Martin dreadnoughts, with present mids to support strumming. The mahogany back and sides bring clarity, tight bass, and clear chord definition. The Modern Belly bridge and compensated bone nut contribute to good definition, precise intonation, and balanced sustain.
