From Gene Autry to Today's Stages: The Iconic "45" Revisited

Born in 1933 at the request of singer Gene Autry, the D-45 established itself as the pinnacle of ornate folk guitars. Rare and legendary, pre-war models built its legend before a production revival in 1968 brought it back into the spotlight. The Golden Era version carries on this heritage with 45-style craftsmanship and finishes, handcrafted in Nazareth, delivering an instrument with timeless character.

For Whom and Which Styles?

Designed for the discerning musician (intermediate to expert), this dreadnought excels in broad strumming, powerful flatpicking, and dynamic fingerstyle. Folk, bluegrass, country, acoustic pop, or songwriting: the D-45 Golden Era offers an ideal reserve of volume, clarity, and authority both in the studio and in pure acoustic settings.

Sound

The Sitka spruce/East Indian rosewood combination delivers deep lows, sparkling highs, and a characteristic scooped midrange with great note-to-note definition. The carved "Golden Era" forward-shifted X-bracing allows the top to "breathe," enhancing attack, projection, and sustain. The ebony Modern Belly bridge and bone/ebony pins optimize vibration transfer for a rich and harmonious tone.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

Delivered in a hard case, the D-45 Golden Era thrives with Light gauge 12-54 steel strings (80/20 or phosphor bronze). Add a curved capo for folk guitar, a quality strap with headstock attachment, and a case humidifier to maintain the stability of the solid woods.
