A High-End SC Designed to Combine Martin Tradition and Modern Playing
The SC-28E follows the lineage of Martin SC models by incorporating woods and craftsmanship inspired by the high-end models of the Standard series. The idea is simple: to capture the "28" sound signature (rosewood + spruce) while benefiting from decidedly modern playability, especially in the treble registers where a traditional folk guitar can become more demanding.
Who Is It For, and In Which Styles?
The Martin Guitars SC-28E LRB is aimed at the intermediate to advanced guitarist seeking a premium electro-acoustic folk guitar, equally comfortable in the studio and on stage. Its playing comfort will particularly appeal to musicians coming from electric guitars, soloists, as well as demanding accompanists (pop, acoustic rock, fingerstyle, modern folk, worship). The cutaway and SC design invite exploration of leads and arrangements across the entire neck without constraint.
Sound Characteristics
The Sitka spruce top provides attack, precision, and dynamics, ideal for highlighting nuances whether using a pick or fingerstyle. The rosewood back and sides enrich the spectrum with deep lows, complex harmonics, and generous sustain, while maintaining clear definition. Overall, the guitar emphasizes clear and present trebles, a strong point of this SC-28E. On the amplification side, the LR Baggs Anthem combines natural reproduction with good feedback resistance, preserving the acoustic character on stage.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay true to the original spirit, you can consider a set of steel strings for 6-string folk guitar (the guitar comes factory-strung with LUXE BY MARTIN Kovar). A capo for folk guitar will also be a practical addition for accompaniment and open chord playing.
