From the Heritage of EMI TG Consoles to Series 500 Format: The Chandler Signature

The TG12345 MKIV follows the lineage of equalizers associated with the historic EMI TG12345 recording consoles, whose personality shaped iconic productions from the late sixties and early seventies. This sonic aesthetic, characterized by silky presence, generous lows, and an immediately musical grain, helped define the sound of landmark albums such as The Beatles' "Abbey Road" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of The Moon."

Chandler Limited has translated this DNA into various products, from the TG Microphone Cassette to the highly regarded TG12345 Curve Bender. The TG12345 MKIV in Series 500 format captures this spirit with a decidedly studio-focused approach: a fully discrete, handcrafted module designed to fit into a Series 500 rack without sacrificing the character and "console" feel.

A Mono Equalizer for Tracking and Mixing: Vocals, Guitars, Overheads, and Key Sources

Designed as a single-slot mono module, the TG12345 MKIV naturally fits in tracking situations on a vocal channel, electric guitar, bass, ambient mic, overhead, or close mic on snare drum. Its benefit is immediate: you quickly sculpt the placement in the mix with settings that remain musical even when pushing the gain.

In mixing, it becomes an excellent "finishing" tool on central elements. The presence band helps bring out articulation and attack, while the bass band thickens a source or cleans it up neatly without harshness. For a coherent channel strip approach, it pairs ideally with a Chandler TG2-500 preamp and a Chandler TG Opto compressor to recreate the spirit of a classic EMI TG console channel in a Series 500 rack.

Two Bands, High Efficiency: Precise Presence and Solid Bass, with True Bypass

Presence Band: 8 Positions to Shape the Front of the Mix

The presence section is switchable across eight positions. The first seven offer Bell type curves, ideal for targeting clarity, attack, or projection zones without altering the source. The eighth position switches to a 10 kHz Shelf, perfect for adding air, opening the high end, and providing a "record" finishing touch.

The continuous boost/cut control allows fine tuning, especially useful when you just want to "push" a vocal forward, emphasize a pick attack, or clarify overheads without becoming aggressive.

Bass Band: Shelf at 90 or 150 Hz to Thicken or Clean Up

The bass band operates as a Shelf with two selectable frequencies: 90 Hz or 150 Hz. This choice is very practical in real situations: 90 Hz to reinforce the foundation (bass, kick, toms, low vocals), 150 Hz to affect more the body and warmth (guitars, snare, vocals, room).

Again, the continuous gain control facilitates subtle corrections as well as more pronounced boosts, with a response that remains smooth and coherent, in the spirit of TG equalizers.

Hardware By-pass: Immediate Comparison and Preserved Signal Chain

The Hardware By-pass switch physically removes the equalization from the signal path. This is a real convenience in the studio for quickly validating decisions (A/B), checking the impact of a presence setting, or verifying that a bass boost serves the arrangement rather than cluttering the mix.
