Summary of This Score
Concerto for Violin and Orchestra op.VII no.6 - keyboard reduction highlights the unique style of Jean-Marie Leclair, considered the most eminent representative of the 18th-century French violin school. Partly trained in Piedmont in contact with the Italian tradition, Leclair successfully fused French elegance and Italian virtuosity, serving a demanding and meticulously crafted writing style.
This edition offers a practical approach for the musician: the concerto is provided without introduction, with separate parts including a keyboard reduction (ideal for piano accompaniment during lessons, auditions, or rehearsals) as well as a Violino di concertino part for the soloist. The reduction allows focus on intonation, articulation, and phrasing, while maintaining a clear harmonic overview of the work.
Beyond virtuosity, this concerto stands out for its formal quality and contrapuntal writing, uncommon in France at that time. It is a relevant choice to enrich a concert program, work on French Baroque style, and develop polyphonic listening in solo playing.
List of works: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra (A Major).
