This publication highlights Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764), considered the most prominent representative of the French violin school of the 18th century. Born in Lyon, he established himself as a soloist after several trips to Piedmont starting in 1722, where the teaching of Somis, heir to Corelli's tradition, left a lasting mark on his style. From 1728, at the Concert Spirituel in Paris, Leclair developed an innovative, demanding, and refined violin writing that transformed the practice of the instrument in France.

The Concerto for Violin and Orchestra op. VII no 5, probably composed around 1737, is offered here in score to allow a comprehensive approach to the work by performers. Structured in three movements (Allegro, Largo, Allegro assai), this concerto in A minor combines technical brilliance and a sense of line, with virtuosity serving the clarity of the musical discourse.
