Summary of This Method
Designed with the help of instrument teachers, this method offers a modern way to approach music training: instead of separating theory and practice, it advances them together through "orchestral" work. The student understands the connection between rhythm, reading, listening, and instrumental playing, since solfège learning is directly connected to the instrument they play. This constant bridge between the music theory course and the instrument makes concepts more meaningful, more musical, and above all easier to integrate over the long term.
The pedagogy emphasizes an oral approach before the written, which helps build solid listening reflexes and better rhythmic and melodic accuracy. Interpreting scores with different instrumentalists enriches the ear (timbres, balances, roles of sections) and improves the understanding of the works presented: analysis is not just theoretical, it is experienced through playing. Gradually, the student gains autonomy, musical landmarks, and confidence, while developing the pleasure of collective instrumental practice.
Each volume of Symphonic FM is organized into two complementary resources: a student book (chosen according to the instrument played) and a teacher's book. From volume 5 onwards, the presentation of the student books changes for practical reasons related to the volume's density: there is now a main workbook common to all instruments, to which is added a separate section dedicated to each instrument, including instrumental duets, instrumental versions of songs, and instrumental practices. The student no longer buys a book linked to an instrument family, but rather the workbook corresponding to their instrument.
