Summary of This Score

Written in 2022 for solo bassoon, string sextet, and piano, this composition offers an engaged narration inspired by the excesses inflicted on our planet. From the opening, the strings and piano establish a climate of turmoil, dense and almost abrasive, within which the bassoon gradually rises. Its song, conceived as a symbol of the voice of the Earth, soars above a frenetic abundance evoking human agitation, saturation, and pollution, becoming a genuine cry of alarm.

The score then moves through several contrasting sections, like different eras or landscapes: night, ice, rain. Each episode explores a specific palette of timbres, playing with changes in textures, dynamics, and ensemble colors. The dialogue between the bassoon and the strings, supported by the piano, allows transitions from dark and tense atmospheres to more suspended moments where musical breathing and sonic space regain their rights.

The conclusion moves toward a song of reconciliation, presented in the form of a chorale. This final part seeks balance, a possible coexistence between Man and Earth, with a resolutely optimistic perspective oriented toward osmosis and symbiosis. Lasting approximately 12 minutes, the work was created as part of a commission by Renaud Capuçon and the Festival Nouveaux Horizons 2022, and is intended for musicians wishing to champion an expressive, narrative, and deeply evocative contemporary repertoire.
