A Series Designed for Cinema, in the Spirit of the XTI Platform
The DSI series is specially adapted for cinema environments, where reliability, repeatability of settings, and consistent reproduction are essential. Built on the XTI platform, these amplifiers adopt an installation-oriented approach: standardized format, clear interfaces, embedded DSP, and supervision/configuration capabilities.
All models in the series share a 2U chassis and a stated weight of 8.6 kg (except the DSI6000). This uniformity facilitates rack integration, especially in technical bays and projection booths, where space and thermal management are recurring constraints.
Who Is This DSI Amplifier For and In Which Applications Does It Excel?
This amplifier is aimed at integrators, venue operators, and technicians seeking amplification dedicated to cinema systems: LCR channels, surround, or reinforcement requiring precise control and reproducible settings. It is also suitable for demanding fixed installations (auditoriums, multipurpose rooms, museums) whenever centralized processing (EQ, filtering, delay, limiting) close to the amplification stage is desired.
Thanks to its extended load compatibility (down to 2 ohms in stereo) and bridge mode, the DSI series offers true flexibility to adapt to speaker architecture, installation wiring, and power needs, while maintaining user-friendly operation focused on practical use.
Internal DSP, Installation Connectivity, and Safety: An "All-in-One" Approach
Amplification and Audio Behavior in Installation
The DSI series uses class AB+B amplification, with a fixed gain of 26 dB and a damping factor greater than 500, characteristics relevant for preserving good transducer control and clean response in a cinema playback context. The device is designed to operate between 2 to 8 ohms in stereo and 4 to 16 ohms in bridge mode, adapting to wiring configurations encountered in venues.
Front Panel Control: Simple, Clear, Usable
The front panel includes a power switch, two volume potentiometers, and three buttons dedicated to configuring the internal DSP via a backlit display. LED indicators allow visualization of output levels, clip status, and thermal protection for quick diagnostics during operation.
Configuration and Presets: 15 Factory Programs + 5 User Memories
The internal DSP, common to all three models in the range, allows comprehensive amplifier configuration. It offers 15 factory presets programmed for JBL Cinema speakers and 5 user programs, convenient for standardizing multiple rooms while maintaining specific adjustments according to acoustics or setup.
Available processing includes 6 parametric filters (+/-15 dB), Butterworth high-pass and low-pass filters at 6/12 dB, delays up to 50 ms, and an output limiter. The whole system aims to secure playback, optimize temporal alignment, and control tonal balance without adding external processors in configurations that do not require them.
Installation Connectivity and Booth Integration
The rear panel is oriented toward integration: a USB connector enables PC configuration with HiQnet software, inputs are balanced on Euroblock connectors, and amplified outputs are provided on screw terminals, common choices in installations for reliability and mechanical robustness. A SubD15 connector is also present for connection with the DSI8M monitoring system for cinema projection booths.
Protections, Ventilation, and Long-Term Reliability
The DSI series includes protections against short circuits, load issues, excessive input and output levels, as well as DC currents toward the speakers. Forced ventilation relies on a large-diameter fan, with airflow from front to back, and speed proportional to component temperature rise.
As with all CROWN products, DSI series amplifiers benefit from a 3-year warranty, an important factor for intensive use and installed fleets.

Questions frequently asked
What power does the Crown Audio DSI4000 deliver according to impedance?
The amplifier delivers 2 x 1200 W at 4 ohms, 2 x 650 W at 8 ohms, and 2 x 1600 W at 2 ohms. In bridged mode, the power reaches 3200 W at 4 ohms or 2400 W at 8 ohms.
Can the DSI4000 power cinema speakers at 2 ohms?
This model operates in stereo on loads from 2 to 8 ohms, with 1600 W per channel at 2 ohms at 1 kHz and 1% THD. Bridged mode supports loads from 4 to 16 ohms.
What DSP settings are integrated?
The DSP features 15 factory presets intended for JBL Cinema speakers and 5 user memories. Six parametric filters of ±15 dB, Butterworth high-pass and low-pass filters of 6 or 12 dB, a maximum delay of 50 ms, and an output limiter are available. Configuration can be done from a PC via USB with HiQnet.
What connectivity is provided for rack installation?
Both balanced inputs use Euroblock connectors, while the two amplified outputs are on terminal blocks. A SubD15 connector allows linking to the DSI8M monitoring system.
What are the dimensions and protections of the DSI4000?
In a 2U format, the unit measures 48.3 x 8.9 x 31.1 cm and weighs 8.6 kg. Forced ventilation flows from front to back with speed adjusted according to component temperature. Protections cover short circuits, overloads, excessive levels, and DC current to the speakers.
