A Reed That Has Become a Reference Among Jazz Musicians

La Voz has established itself over the years as a must-have choice for players seeking a dense, present, and expressive sound. Close to the "American cut" philosophy popularized by certain Rico ranges, these reeds emphasize responsiveness and tonal color while maintaining a solid foundation to handle nuances and jazz-style attacks.

Manufacturing consistency is now a strong point of the range: modern machining and enhanced quality controls aim to offer reeds that are more uniform from piece to piece, minimizing response variations and making strength selection easier on a daily basis.

For Which Musicians and Styles

With their assertive sound character, La Voz reeds in Hard strength are primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced musicians, as well as professionals who appreciate a reed that holds well, especially for dynamic playing and clear articulations. They are particularly suitable for jazz settings (combo, big band), but can also be relevant in pop and amplified music when projection and stability are desired.

Note: the range is available in several strengths (from S to H ), allowing fine adjustment of the balance between ease of play, resistance, and control. In Hard strength, you generally get a more "resistant" feel under the air, useful for supporting forceful playing and maintaining a solid pitch center.

Sound and Design

The American cut combined with a thinner heart promotes quick vibration: the reed readily responds to attack while developing a dark timbre and good projection when pushing the instrument. The thinner profile adds flexibility (bends, inflections, vibrato), while the more robust vamp improves mechanical resistance and can contribute to a feeling of stability, especially on powerful passages and long notes.

Useful glossary : the heart is the central zone that strongly influences the richness and "column" of the sound; the profile corresponds to the thickness distribution along the length of the reed (thus affecting response); the vamp refers to the thicker part near the heel, which contributes to the reed's solidity and overall behavior.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the flatness and lifespan of your reeds, a reed case (ventilated storage box) is a simple and relevant accessory: it facilitates transport, prevents shocks, and helps keep reeds consistent from session to session. A swab suitable for your instrument is also recommended to limit residual moisture and maintain a more stable response.
