A DiMarzio Classic Designed for the Strat World
Introduced in 2003, the Tone Zone S captures the spirit of the famous Tone Zone by adapting it to the specifics of a Strat-style guitar. The goal: to achieve a thick, generous, and expressive sound without making the instrument aggressive in the high frequencies. The result is a very popular pickup for transforming an SSS setup into a riff machine while maintaining definition.
For Whom and Which Styles?
The DiMarzio DP189 is primarily designed as a bridge pickup : perfect for rock, hard rock, gritty blues, and lead tones that need to "cut" through the mix. It can also be mounted in the neck position if you're looking for a very warm, round tone with a modern jazz color and nice note density.
Sound Character and Response: Thick, Defined, Usable
With its ceramic magnet and a 300 mV output level, this pickup delivers a clear attack and a comfortable gain reserve for distortion. Its profile emphasizes present mids and solid lows, while keeping the highs softened to avoid harshness. The 4-wire wiring opens the door to clearer, snappier sounds in split mode, or tighter textures in parallel, depending on the chosen wiring. For a coherent set, it pairs ideally with a Pro Track, a Chopper, or a Fast Track 1.
