A DPA Microphone Designed for the Challenges of Live and Broadcast Environments
The DPA 2028 was developed to meet the specific challenges of vocals in dense sound environments: monitors, close instruments, placement variations, and wide dynamics. It aligns with DPA's approach focused on clean and natural sound, with very controlled off-axis response. The result: the sound engineer captures an exploitable and coherent voice while maintaining a stage that is easier to control thanks to the supercardioid directionality.
In its version with the SL1 adapter, the 2028 integrates more easily into professional audio chains for broadcast, live audiovisual, and stage performances where reliability, rejection, and consistent timbre are essential.
Who It's For and What It's For: Live Singing, Spoken Word, Broadcast, and Demanding Performances
The 2028-B-SL1 is aimed at singers and artists who want to regain an "acoustic" feel at the microphone without having to force placement to remain intelligible. It is also very suitable for spoken applications (presentations, events, studios, live streams, broadcasts) when precise diction and respected timbre are sought.
Thanks to its high gain before feedback and stable on-stage behavior, it is particularly suited to setups with many sources (drums, amps, brass) and contexts where heavy equalization corrections are to be avoided to keep a more organic voice in the mix.
Design, Directionality, and Sound: A Microphone That "Disappears" in Favor of Performance
Supercardioid and Off-Axis Response: Better Isolate the Voice Without Altering It
The supercardioid capsule focuses the pickup on the voice and reduces pickup of other sources. Where many microphones become harsh or unbalanced as soon as the source moves off-axis, the 2028 is designed to maintain a natural rendering of off-axis sounds. In practice, this facilitates mixing and allows for a more consistent voice even when the artist moves.
Internal Suspension and Dedicated Pop Filter: Less Unwanted Noise, More Comfort
The 2028's design is based on a capsule mounted on a suspension that effectively isolates it from unwanted noise. The pop filter was specifically developed for this model to improve proximity comfort and reduce plosives. On stage, this results in a more stable, cleaner microphone and a more confident vocal capture, even during dynamic passages.
A Microphone Made to Sound Right with Minimal Equalization
The 2028 aims for a clear and natural sound to reduce the technical corrections often required with more characterful microphones. The goal is simple: to let you perform with the voice as if the microphone imposed no constraints, while providing the sound engineer with usable and coherent material in the mix.

Questions frequently asked
Does the DPA 2028-B-SL1 require phantom power?
Phantom power P48 is required for optimal performance. The maximum current consumption is 2.5 mA.
Is this microphone suitable for live vocal use with stage monitors?
The supercardioid polar pattern focuses on vocal pickup and limits nearby source bleed. The high feedback gain reported suits stage setups with monitors, drums, or amplifiers.
What is the polar pattern of the DPA 2028?
The electret capsule has a supercardioid polar pattern with off-axis response designed to remain natural when the performer moves.
Does the 2028 filter low-frequency noise and plosives?
A permanent 3rd order high-pass filter at 80 Hz is integrated. The capsule is suspended to reduce handling noise, while the dedicated pop filter limits plosives during close vocal use.
What connectors and cable length can this microphone use?
The balanced output has a nominal impedance of 150 ohms and accepts a minimum load of 1 kohm. A cable drive capability of 100 m is specified.
