Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
At DW, the 9000 series has long been associated with "touring-grade" hardware: robust, precise, and designed to speed up stage changes. The DW 9000X takes this concept further by adding locking and repeatability solutions aimed at drummers who frequently assemble and disassemble their kits. This 9700XIL clearly sits at the top of the range: a boom cymbal stand designed to withstand heavy use, maintain settings, and remain smooth to handle, even in demanding contexts (stage, studio, backline).
Who This Cymbal Stand Is For
This stand primarily targets intermediate to expert drummers seeking reliable, stable, and quick-to-adjust hardware. It is especially suited for styles where attack and energy put equipment to the test: rock, metal, punk, live pop, gospel, or fusion, but it is equally relevant in the studio whenever precise and reproducible placements are desired. If you use thick cymbals, large diameters, or very extended positions, the architecture and locks of this stand are designed to minimize sagging and micro-movements.

Questions frequently asked
Can the DW Drum Workshop DWCP9500X be used as a boom or straight stand?
This model is convertible into either a boom or straight configuration, depending on placement within the kit. Its Ultra-Rigid tripod base and thick tubes ensure the entire unit remains stable.
How does the InnerLock height memory work?
The InnerLock system remembers the overall height to allow for an identical setting after transport. The upper tubes can then be rotated or folded without losing this internal reference.
What angle adjustment does the boom arm offer?
The AutoLock Boom Tilter locks or unlocks with a 90° rotation and provides 72 indexed positions. The cymbal tilt is continuously adjustable thanks to the toothless tilter with Techlock.
Is this stand suitable for heavy cymbals and extended positions?
The Ultra-Rigid base, heavy-gauge tubes, and stable tripod are designed to minimize movement with large cymbals or an extended boom. DW MOD modular counterweights of 1.9 kg each can be added to increase stability depending on the setup.
Do the felts and wing nut stay attached to the stand?
The captive felts are designed to remain in place during assembly and disassembly. The metal Quick Release Wingnut stays mechanically attached to the stand, while the cymbal seat features adjustable tension.
