A "Box All In One" format designed for the traveling guitarist
The BAIO (short for "Box All In One") fits the trend of compact setups capable of covering essentials without multiplying pedals. The idea is simple: offer a mini-format guitar multi-effects unit with the essential building blocks for a complete modern sound (preamp, time-based effects, speaker simulation via IR, and silent practice options). The result: a unique, easy-to-carry tool that avoids having to choose between mobility and versatility.
Who is the BAIO for, and in what contexts does it make a difference?
The EKO BAIO is aimed at guitarists from beginners to advanced players who want a controlled sound quickly without getting lost in complex menus. In blues, pop, rock, hard rock, and metal, it allows switching from clear cleans to more powerful saturations, while keeping chorus/phaser, delay, and reverb at your feet.
In practice, it excels in headphone playing (at home, backstage, in hotels), in rehearsal with an amp, and in studio thanks to its use as an audio interface. It is also a very effective solution for a minimalist pedalboard: a single unit for main sounds, plus optionally a "signature" pedal in front if you like stacking gain.
Controls, modes, and connectivity: an efficient workflow on stage
The BAIO concentrates essential editing with direct access. The 9 selectable preamp types allow choosing a sonic base inspired by legendary amps, then adjusting saturation and tonal balance via Drive (gain) and Tone. For space and movement, the Mod section provides access to Chorus and Phaser, while the Delay has dedicated settings (time, feedback, mix) with a tape echo style character. A Reverb completes the set to place your guitar in a more natural or spacious environment.
The IR button lets you select among 8 impulse responses (cabinets + microphones) adapted for the BAIO by Massimo Varini, with the possibility to load third-party IRs. For foot control, the 3 footswitches allow toggling between a Preset mode (3 user memories) and a Live mode which facilitates separate activation of blocks (IR / reverb, delay / modulation, preamp). There is also a built-in tuner foot-activated with Mute function, as well as convenient Bluetooth for playing along with backing tracks from any compatible device.
At the rear, the approach is straightforward: an instrument input and an output in 6.35mm Jack format, an ON/OFF switch, and USB connections for power/recharging, computer connection, and smartphone linking depending on your use (playing, recording, audio content).
Sound
The BAIO aims for a modern, direct, and usable reproduction: clear and readable cleans, punchy crunches, and denser distortions depending on the chosen preamp and Drive level. The response remains pleasant for working on pick dynamics and guitar volume, with a rendering that sharpens further thanks to the IR choice: by selecting the right cabinet/mic combination, you can go from a more vintage and open grain to a tighter and more focused signature, ideal for mixing.
The effects are designed to be musical rather than gimmicky: chorus and phaser to thicken or animate an arpeggio, tape echo style delay to add depth without overwhelming, and reverb for spaciousness. Both live and in home studio, the whole helps achieve a "finished" sound quickly, whether through an amp or headphone listening.

Questions frequently asked
What is the battery life of the Eko BAIO?
The rechargeable 600 mAh lithium-ion battery provides approximately 6 hours of continuous use.
Can the multi-effects unit be used with headphones?
A headphone output in minijack format is provided for silent practice. The cabinet simulation offers 8 impulse responses to adapt the sound for direct listening.
Which effects are built into the BAIO?
The processing includes a preamp among 9 types, a chorus or phaser, a tape echo-style delay, and a reverb. Three effects can be used simultaneously, with dedicated controls for mix, time, and feedback on the delay.
Can the BAIO be used as a USB audio interface?
Recording to a computer is possible via USB, while a micro USB connection is provided for smartphones. Signal processing operates at 48 kHz / 24 bit.
How do the footswitches and memory work?
The 3 footswitches provide access to a Preset mode with 3 user-recordable memories, or to a Live mode. In the latter, the preamp, delay/modulation, and IR/reverb blocks can be activated separately; the tuner with mute function is also footswitch-activated.
