The JB 100: the spirit of the Eko Guitars Tribute series
Part of the Eko Guitars Tribute series, the JB 100 features the familiar lines of a JB-style bass in a design intended to make the instrument accessible. Its glossy Sunburst finishing complements a traditional construction: four strings, a bolt-on neck and two single-coil pickups. It therefore provides a clear foundation for discovering the feel and possibilities of a passive electric bass.
This bundle adds the equipment needed to start playing amplified to the instrument. Rather than choosing an amp, cable, gig bag and first accessories separately, you get a coherent set. It is a practical solution for getting started, as well as for giving a first setup to a future bassist.
A first setup for learning and finding your place in the song
The EKO JB 100 Sunburst electric bass bundle is primarily aimed at beginners. It allows you to work on the fundamentals: tuning, finger placement, rhythmic consistency and coordination between both hands. Dot inlays on the key make it easier to find your way around, while the 21 frets leave room to explore bass lines and your first movements in the upper register.
The two J pickup configuration suits a wide range of genres, from rock and pop to blues, funk and soul. Fingerstyle playing lets you explore rounded or more pronounced attacks, while the included picks encourage you to try a different articulation. This allows you to discover several approaches without changing instruments.
The 3 W mini amp is primarily intended for personal practice at moderate volume. Its rechargeable battery makes it easy to set up without constantly relying on a mains outlet. The Bluetooth function provides a wireless connection option for a compatible device; it does not replace the supplied jack cable for connecting the bass to the amp. To play with an acoustic drummer, more powerful amplification should be considered.
Two J pickups for moving from a rounded foundation to a more defined attack
The character of the JB 100 largely comes from its two J-style single-coil pickups. The neck pickup generally favours a rounder, fuller sound, while the one positioned near the bridge emphasises articulation and the midrange. Their independent volume controls allow you to balance their respective presence: a direct way to understand how pickup selection transforms a bass line.
The overall tone control can be used to attenuate the highs for a softer sound, or to retain more definition when left fully open. This passive electronics configuration prioritises ease of use, without an abundance of adjustments. It allows you to focus on the essentials: attack, note duration and playing consistency.
The poplar body, maple neck and laurel key form the foundation of the instrument's construction. On an electric bass, the sound also depends heavily on the pickups, strings, setup and amplification. The four-saddle bridge allows individual string adjustment, which is useful for fine-tuning intonation and action. On the amp, the Gain, Tone and Volume controls complement the instrument's settings.
Accessories included for your first sessions
The bundle already includes a protective gig bag, an EKO nylon strap, a clip-on chromatic tuner, a jack cable, adjustment tools, a set of replacement strings and three picks. The USB cable required to recharge the amp is also included. Make a habit of checking the tuning before each session; for your first neck or bridge adjustments, assistance from a teacher or technician can be invaluable.
