The spirit of a rock classic, reimagined by Eko
With the LS300 Stealth Matte Black, Italian manufacturer Eko revisits the design codes of a silhouette that has been part of rock history for nearly seventy years. Its single-cutaway shape, recognisable by its single cutaway, follows the tradition of LP-style electric guitars. The carved body retains this characteristic relief, while the satin Black finish gives it a more understated, contemporary look.
Within Eko's range, this LS300 serves as an accessible gateway to this world. It favours a familiar configuration, with two humbuckers and separate controls, rather than complex electronics that take time to master. The objective is clear: to offer new guitarists an instrument that captures the key visual and sonic references of blues-rock, while asserting its own personality with this Stealth version.
A first electric guitar for exploring blues and rock
The Eko LS300 electric guitar is primarily aimed at beginners who want to practise their first chords, riffs and solos on an instrument with a rock character. The neck's C profile offers a familiar feel, suited to a wide range of hand sizes. The laurel key complements this comfort-oriented design, while the cutaway facilitates access to the upper part of the neck.
Its musical territory ranges from blues to hard rock, including pop-rock accompaniment and more forceful riffs. It allows players to discover both the nuances of a clean sound and the character of crunch or the energy of overdrive. Intermediate guitarists can also take advantage of its classic configuration to explore the differences between the neck and bridge pickups, or learn to shape their sound directly from the guitar.
Two humbuckers for a full sound and generous overdrive
The character of the LS300 largely comes from its two humbucking pickups. Compared with the usual single-coil pickups, this configuration favours a higher output level and a rounder, denser, fuller sound. It is particularly well suited to overdriven tones, where chords gain thickness and melodic lines gain presence. The humbucker design also reduces sensitivity to hum and certain surrounding electrical interference.
The 3-way selector provides access to three complementary tonal colours. The bridge pickup delivers a more incisive attack, useful for making riffs stand out and adding bite to rhythm parts. The neck pickup favours a fuller low-end register, making it well suited to blues phrases and solos with a softer tone. In the middle position, combining both pickups offers another option for varying accompaniment without changing the amplifier settings.
Each pickup has its own volume and tone control. This layout makes it possible to prepare different balances between the two pickups, then switch from one to the other using the selector. Rolling back the tone helps soften the treble; adjusting the volume controls the level sent to the amplifier and, depending on its response, the amount of overdrive. These controls provide a good starting point for learning to add nuance to your playing without relying solely on effects.
The construction combines a poplar body, a maple neck and a laurel key. Together, these form the instrument's mechanical foundation, while the humbuckers provide most of its amplified character. The Tune-o-Matic-style bridge offers individual contact points for the strings and allows their intonation to be adjusted. Sustain and accuracy will also depend on the overall setup, the strings used and playing technique.
