The Essentials to Know About the Electro-Harmonix Pico POG Pedal

  • Ultra-compact polyphonic octaver: the Micro/Nano POG philosophy in a "pico" format designed for tight pedalboards.

  • Ultra-fast tracking: accurately follows your notes and chords for clean and stable octaves.

  • Simple and effective 3-voice mixing: separate volumes for SUB OCTAVE, OCTAVE UP, and DRY.

  • Advanced 3-mode Tone control: powerful tone shaping to instantly adapt the octave to your mix.

A direct heir of the POG lineage, tailored for modern pedalboards

The Pico POG belongs to the renowned family of POG (Polyphonic Octave Generator) pedals by Electro-Harmonix: pedals that have become standards for achieving clean, precise, and chord-playable octave sounds. The idea here is clear: to take the "plug-and-play" simplicity of the Micro and Nano POG, fit it into an even more compact chassis, and add a more sculpting tone control to better fit in band contexts, recording, or solo playing.

Who is it for, what styles, and in which contexts?

The Electro-Harmonix Pico POG is aimed at any guitarist (and bassist) who wants to expand their palette without struggling with menus: from the beginner seeking an immediate "wow" effect, to the professional needing a reliable octaver in studio and on stage. In rock and pop, it thickens riffs in a "double guitar" style. In ambient, post-rock, or cinematic settings, it becomes a pad machine (especially with delay/reverb). In funk and electro, it adds that synthetic and precise touch that transforms a simple pattern into a modern texture.

Controls, modes, and philosophy: all at your fingertips

The core concept is an ultra-intuitive 3-voice mixer: you blend SUB OCTAVE (one octave down), OCTAVE UP (one octave up), and DRY (the direct signal). Simply put: you choose whether to just "thicken" your sound, create a 12-string illusion, or switch to a more radical synthy madness.

The most musically useful innovation is the TONE + FILTER pair (3 modes). In Tone mode, the knob acts as a tilt-EQ applied to all voices: perfect for opening up the sound in a mix, or darkening it if your amp is already bright. In Low Pass mode, a resonant low-pass filter cuts the highs of the octave voices (Sub and Up) for rounder, less "clicky" textures. In High Pass mode, the high-pass filter does the opposite: it lightens the lows on the octave voices to gain clarity, especially with high gain or in a busy arrangement.

Regarding integration, the Pico POG features a buffered bypass: a coherent choice to maintain clarity in a pedal chain, especially with longer cable runs.

The sound

The Pico POG stands out with a clean, precise, and very responsive character: the attack remains clear, chords keep definition, and latency is minimal. By slightly blending Sub Octave under your Dry signal, you get a solid, "mix-ready" low end that makes the amp sound wider. Increasing Octave Up grants access to airy timbres, sometimes close to a synth flute or an organ depending on your playing and downstream effects. When pushing the octave mix, the pedal readily shifts into a generous synthy texture, ideal for expressive monophonic lines or harmonic pads.

"POG" sounds are also widely adopted for octave colors in very diverse genres: for example, guitarists like John Frusciante and Jack White have been associated with using the POG family in their rigs, notably for organ textures and polyphonic doubling.
