From Superego to Superego+: the Electro-Harmonix "freeze" spirit, extended version
The Superego+ builds on the concept that made the Superego successful: capturing a chord, note, or texture "in the moment," then turning it into a stable, playable sound layer. Where it goes further is in the precision of control (trigger threshold, separate attack and decay) and the integration of a true onboard effects section, designed to evolve the moving pad without multiplying pedals. The result: a guitar synth pedal that remains musical but also opens up a very sound-design-oriented playground.
Who it's for, and in which styles the Superego+ makes a difference
The Superego+ is aimed at guitarists (and more broadly musicians) who want to thicken an arrangement, create ambient pads, lay down a drone under a theme, or achieve ultra-smooth transitions between two harmonies. It excels in ambient, post-rock, shoegaze, film music, experimental electro, worship, but also in modern pop for adding discreet and organic backgrounds. Live, it's a formidable ally to fill the space when moving from a riff to a lead part, or to hold a harmony while you play over it.

Questions frequently asked
What Freeze modes are available on the Electro-Harmonix Super Ego Plus?
Five modes can be selected via the MODE footswitch: Moment, Sustain, Auto, Latch, and Live Effects. The first four determine how the captured pad behaves and is sustained.
Is it possible to create pads with gradual attack and fade?
The Attack and Decay controls separately affect the attack and release of the captured layer. The Gliss knob allows fading the transition between two captures, while Threshold adjusts the triggering sensitivity.
What effects are built into the pedal?
The effects section includes tremolo, delay, octaver/harmony, EQ, and chorus, with effect selection plus Rate and Depth controls. The delay can go up to 2 seconds.
Does the effects loop allow adding external pedals?
A Send/Return loop with 6.35 mm jacks is included to insert external effects into the signal path. Both the Send and Output jacks have a 500-ohm output impedance.
What power supply and external controllers should be used?
The power supply requires a 5.5 x 2.1 mm coaxial connector with center negative. The EXT input, a 6.35 mm TRS jack, accepts an external 3-button controller. A 6.35 mm mono jack cable can also be used for clock signal triggering.
