A New Step in the Electro-Harmonix Wah-Wah Tradition
The Wailer Wah Pro is part of the long history of Electro-Harmonix wah-wahs, an adventure that began in the 1970s with iconic creations such as the Crying Tone and Queen Triggered Wah. It captures the direct, musical and immediately inspiring spirit of these pedals: a wah designed to make the guitar speak, emphasize an attack or transform a sustained note into an expressive phrase.
This Pro version evolves the original Wailer Wah with a construction designed for musicians who regularly play on stage. Whereas the first version focused on lightness, this model features a die-cast aluminum metal enclosure. It retains a deliberately straightforward approach: no menus or unnecessary controls, just a natural pedal sweep and a distinctive wah voice.
An Intuitive Wah for Funk, Rock and Expressive Leads
The Electro-Harmonix Wailer Wah Pro is equally suited to beginner guitarists looking to discover the wah-wah effect and experienced musicians seeking a reliable pedal for their pedalboard. Its immediate operation lets you focus on rhythmic placement, touch and playing nuances rather than complex settings.
It naturally finds its place in funk for accentuating muted strumming patterns and syncopated rhythms, in blues-rock for adding depth to solos, or in hard rock and metal for bringing out a lead line. Thanks to its clarity with overdriven sounds, it remains highly effective before an overdrive, distortion or high-gain amplifier. It can also be used in a fixed position, a technique often called "cocked wah", to create a focused midrange color, ideal for thickening up a riff or cutting through a mix.
A Rugged, Simple Design Built for Playing
The Wailer Wah Pro operates via a potentiometer-based pedal: moving from heel to toe sweeps a resonant filter. The sound gradually moves from a dark, low color to a brighter, more incisive and more nasal voice. This physical interaction with your foot brings a lively dimension that no static setting can reproduce.
The effect is activated by pressing firmly on the front of the pedal until the switch clicks. The pedal features true bypass: when it is disengaged, the guitar signal passes through the circuit without intentional coloration. It connects easily between the guitar and amplifier via an input and an output on an unbalanced 6.35 mm jack.
Its inductorless circuit helps preserve signal definition, even as the gain increases. This design also limits unwanted feedback and extraneous squealing that some wah-wahs can generate at high volume or with heavily driven distortion. A particularly valuable solution for modern pedalboards and highly saturated amplifiers.
The Sound
The Wailer Wah Pro delivers a voice that is both smooth and vocal, with enough bite to stand out in a band. In the heel-down position, it thickens the low register with pleasant warmth without making the sound unnecessarily muddy. As you move your foot forward, the filter opens up the mids and highs to produce that expressive "wah" character, capable of bringing out every attack.
Its sweep favors fluidity over excessive aggression. Notes retain their articulation on a clean channel, while chords remain clear with overdrive or distortion. On solos, it provides a sharper attack and a vocal presence that helps the guitar stand out in the mix. This is a versatile wah, warm enough for blues and precise enough for saturated riffs or modern rock leads.
