The ENGL Artist Edition 100 E651 has a unique history within the German manufacturer’s lineup. Its starting point was the renowned E650 Ritchie Blackmore Signature, whose platform was reworked in 2005 for guitarist Doug Aldrich. The goal was to retain ENGL’s precision and efficiency while developing a more organic, dynamic and muscular response through an EL34 tube power stage.

Remaining a prototype for a long time, this amp head was used in several Los Angeles studios before becoming a production model. Its character appealed to guitarists working in hard rock, classic rock and more modern styles. With its 100 W all-tube design, the ENGL E651AD Artist Edition is aimed at musicians looking for substantial power reserves and excellent control at high volume. It is particularly well suited to rehearsals with an energetic band, large-stage concerts and studio sessions requiring a dense, precise and lively guitar sound.

Its four-channel architecture will suit classic rock guitarists as well as musicians playing hard rock, heavy metal, modern metal, melodic rock or post-hardcore. The numerous controls make it possible to move from a clear accompaniment to a lively crunch, then to singing lead tones or more aggressive overdrive, without changing amplifiers.

This head requires a guitar cabinet suited to its loudspeaker outputs and power rating. Its head format makes it possible to create a custom stack with one or more cabinets, depending on the projection level and tonal color desired.

Four Channels, Two Masters and Controls Designed to Keep You in Control

The E651 Artist Edition provides four clearly identified channels: Clean for transparent tones, Crunch for biting rhythm sounds, Soft Lead for warm, singing overdrive, and Heavy Lead for high gain, tight palm-mutes and modern riffs. Each channel has its own gain control, allowing the saturation level to be adjusted precisely.

The three-band EQ lets you shape the bass, mids and treble, while the presence and lead volume controls make it easy to adapt the head to different cabinets and environments. The Bright, Shape and Gain Lo/Hi functions further expand the tonal palette, adding more sparkle, midrange contour or gain headroom depending on the desired sound.

The two Master A/B volumes are particularly useful for preparing two volume levels, for rhythm and solo parts, for example. The tube-driven effects loop with balance control allows you to integrate delay, reverb, modulation or multi-effects while preserving the character of the preamp. The built-in Noise Gate helps maintain tight stops with heavily saturated settings.

The power tube monitor makes it easier to monitor the output stage. The S.A.C. connection provides serial control of compatible amplifiers. For foot control, this head is compatible with the ENGL Z4 and Z9 foot controllers, allowing you to select channels, masters, the Shape function, the effects loop and the Noise Gate.
