A "Frontier" Reinterpreted in the Masterbilt Spirit
With the Masterbilt series, Epiphone brings back iconic acoustic guitars from its history, aiming for a level of craftsmanship and finish designed for today's musicians. The Masterbilt Frontier fits this philosophy: it takes the DNA of a sixties model with a bold look (square shoulders, refined ornamentation, iconic pickguard) while adding modern, discreet electronics to easily switch from acoustic to amplified playing.
For Whom and Which Styles?
The Masterbilt Frontier is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who want a square-shouldered dreadnought capable of handling energetic strumming while remaining comfortable for vocal accompaniment. Its size and projection make it especially suitable for folk, country, acoustic pop, and unplugged rock. The built-in Fishman electronics are also ideal for musicians who alternate between rehearsals, gigs, and home studio work, offering simple volume and tone controls right at hand.
Sound Characteristics
The solid Sitka spruce top delivers precise attack and good overall balance: clear highs, a present midrange to support rhythmic playing, and a dynamic range that responds well when playing louder. The square-shouldered dreadnought body promotes generous projection and a solid low end, perfect for filling space during accompaniment.
The quarter-sawn spruce bracing contributes to stability and vibration transmission, helping achieve even sustain and consistent string-to-string response. The bone nut (and the bone saddle as specified) enhances definition, especially on open chord attacks and arpeggios. Plugged in, the combination of the Fishman Sonicore under-saddle pickup and Fishman Sonitone preamp aims for a natural acoustic reproduction, with simple controls (volume and tone) to quickly adapt the sound to a PA system or acoustic amplifier.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To enjoy it immediately as an electro-acoustic, plan for a 9V battery (not included). If you want to maintain the original feel and balance, choose a set of Phosphor Bronze 12-53 strings (matching the factory gauge: .012, .016, .024w, .032, .042, .053). Standard straps are compatible thanks to the two strap buttons (at the bottom and side of the heel).
