A J-180 Designed for Heritage... and Today's Musicians
Highly acclaimed in rock, country, and pop genres, the J-180 continues the tradition of stage acoustics with an instantly recognizable style. With this J-180 LS developed in collaboration with Gibson Custom, Epiphone offers a high-end interpretation: solid woods, thermally aged top, iconic aesthetic details, and electro-acoustic equipment tailored for both recording and live performance.
Who Is It For and Which Styles?
This electro-acoustic guitar is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking an expressive instrument, reliable on stage, and nuanced enough for studio work. The J-180 format and long scale length promote precise attack and good tuning stability, ideal for pick accompaniment, pop/folk fingerpicking, modern country, acoustic rock, and open chords that need to "breathe" in the mix.
Sound
The thermally aged solid spruce top delivers a quick response, clear articulation, and very reactive dynamics: the guitar handles energetic strumming as well as delicate playing. The scalloped X bracing helps open up the body and improves projection, providing a freer vibration sensation. The solid mahogany back and sides enhance the mids, add warmth and a singing tone, while maintaining clean bass. Plugged in, the L.R. Baggs VTC electronics under the saddle reproduce a clear and usable image, with volume and tone controls integrated into the soundhole for quick adjustments without compromising aesthetics.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
This guitar is designed for 12-53 gauge strings: a set of acoustic strings of the same gauge is recommended to maintain the original balance and tension. The L.R. Baggs VTC system requires a 9V battery (not included) to power the preamp.
