A J-45 inspired by the 1942 legend, revisited in cutaway version
The Gibson J-45 has been a benchmark since its introduction in 1942. This Epiphone Inspired by Gibson model adopts the features that made it successful (sloped shoulders, power/warmth balance, playing comfort) and adds a cutaway for more natural access to the upper frets, a real plus for modern phrasing and acoustic solos.
For which guitarists and styles?
Thanks to its rounded C-profile neck and sloped shoulder dreadnought format, this J-45 EC suits both intermediate players and experienced musicians looking for a versatile acoustic. It excels in folk, acoustic rock, country, vocal accompaniment, and is suitable for both fingerpicking and energetic strumming. Plugged in, the Fishman electronics facilitate rehearsals, stage performance, and recording.
The sound
The solid Sitka spruce top provides attack, precision, and projection, with a great dynamic reserve when playing hard with a pick. The solid mahogany back and sides round out the spectrum with warm mids and a woody grain, ideal for bringing out the voice. The quarter-sawn spruce bracing contributes to a structured response and natural sustain. Once plugged in, the Fishman Sonicore under-saddle pickup reproduces the attack and balance, while the Presys II allows quick adjustment of volume and EQ, phase inversion activation, and tuning via the LED display.
Recommended compatible accessories
For powering the preamp, plan for a 9-volt battery (not included). If you want to stay as close as possible to the original specifications, choose a set of phosphor bronze acoustic strings in gauge 012-053. The two strap buttons also allow the use of a standard strap for easy standing play.
