A J-45 "Express": the spirit of a classic in a portable format

The J-45 is an iconic silhouette of rounded-shoulder acoustics, appreciated for its "all-rounder guitar" character and comfort. With the J-45 Express, Epiphone carries this philosophy into a 7/8 size designed for mobility: reduced bulk, immediate playability, and more accessible handling thanks to the short scale. Within the range, it positions itself as a practical and reliable travel model, suitable both as a backup guitar and as a serious first acoustic to start playing under good conditions.

Who is the J-45 Express for? Travel, learning, and enjoyable playing

This Epiphone is particularly aimed at guitarists seeking an easy-to-live-with acoustic: beginners looking for a comfortable guitar, traveling musicians wanting a compact instrument, or experienced players desiring a "small" acoustic to keep handy. The 22.68" / 576 mm scale eases stretches and makes chords less physically demanding, which helps with working on rhythm, chord changes, and first barre chords. Style-wise, its format and balanced response make it comfortable for folk, pop, vocal accompaniment, as well as light picking and fingerstyle playing.

Sound: balance, clarity, and warmth in a small body

The J-45 Express combines a solid spruce top with a laminated mahogany body (back, sides, and body). The solid spruce provides a clear attack, good articulation, and pleasant dynamics to nuance playing, especially useful when working on right-hand precision. The mahogany emphasizes a warm and musical midrange register, with a "centered" sound feel that works very well for accompaniment.

Its small body format and "travel" identity favor a more controlled projection and direct output, ideal for playing at home, on the move, or laying down rhythm without overwhelming the space. The short scale also results in slightly softer string tension at equal tuning, which enhances comfort, light bends, and a more forgiving touch, while maintaining good definition thanks to the solid top.

Recommended compatible accessories

Since the guitar comes with strings in .012 - .053 gauge, you can confidently choose an acoustic string set of the same gauge (12-53) to maintain the same comfort and response under the fingers. Thanks to its 2 strap buttons (bottom of the body and side of the heel), a standard guitar strap is directly compatible for playing standing up. A clip-on tuner will also be perfectly suitable for tuning in all situations.
