The Essentials to Know About the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom "Sedona Burst" Guitar

  • Authentic Les Paul Custom Spirit: modernized "tuxedo" aesthetics, multi-ply bindings, and pearloid "block" inlays for a high-end stage presence.

  • Premium Construction Without Compromise: solid mahogany body without weight relief and maple top for a balance of warmth, attack, and definition.

  • One-piece Mahogany Neck with Long Tenon: deep joint for generous sustain, better stability, and a "Custom" feel closer to historical references.

  • Hand-wired Gibson USA Electronics: 490R/498T humbuckers, CTS components, Mallory capacitors, and Switchcraft selector/jack for precise and reliable response.

A Les Paul Custom Born in 1954, Revisited in the Inspired by Gibson Custom Collection

The Les Paul Custom appeared in 1954, conceived as a more refined version of the Les Paul, with a confident elegance and distinctive lutherie details. Over the decades, the recipe evolved, notably in body construction: from the earliest all-mahogany models to versions combining mahogany and maple tops, adding more clarity and attack. This Epiphone, developed in partnership with Gibson Custom, follows this "prestige" lineage by incorporating iconic visual markers (extended binding, "split diamond" inlay, block markers) while aiming for a modern and consistent playing experience.

The "Sedona Burst" finish particularly highlights the top's relief and enhances the Custom's luxurious aspect, complemented by gold hardware that underscores its premium positioning within the range.

Who Is This Les Paul Custom Sedona Burst For?

This Les Paul Custom targets intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a solidbody that is elegant, robust, and expressive, with a true reserve of sustain. Its SlimTaper / Modern Medium C neck profile aims for quick playability: filled enough for comfort but with a modern feel that facilitates movement and technical passages.

Style-wise, it is comfortable across a broad spectrum: rock (dense riffs, power chords), hard rock and classic metal (higher gain, precise palm-mutes), as well as blues and pop when playing with volumes and tones. With two volume and two tone controls, it encourages a "guitar controls" approach: cleaning up the sound with the knob, thickening a chorus, or refining a lead without touching the amp.

A Les Paul Custom Sound: Warmth, Attack, and Sustain with Gibson USA Humbuckers

The instrument's acoustic foundation relies on a proven combination: mahogany for roundness, grain, and mids, and maple top to add attack, clarity, and better note separation. The choice of a no weight relief body enhances the sense of density and contributes to the typical "long" sustain, especially appreciated in solos and sustained chords.

The long neck tenon joint also plays an important role: more contact surface between neck and body, greater vibrational transfer, and a feeling of stability when picking hard. The ebony fingerboard, combined with a 12" / 304.8 mm radius, provides a more immediate response and precise articulation: ideal for clean attacks, double-stops, and smooth bends, while maintaining a familiar feel for Les Paul format veterans.

On the electronics side, the Gibson 490R (neck) and Gibson 498T (bridge) duo is designed to cover essentials: the neck pickup favors a rich, creamy register, perfect for round leads and bluesy rhythms, while the bridge pickup offers more bite and output to cut through the mix. The set is completed by meticulous wiring (CTS components, Mallory capacitors, Switchcraft elements) that ensures usable potentiometer sweep and long-term reliability on stage and in the studio.

Finally, the LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece contribute to tuning stability, intonation, and overall stability. This is the kind of detail felt daily: settings that move less, vibrations better preserved, and a firmer feel under the picking hand.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To get the most out of this solidbody, you can equip it with a set of electric guitar strings (common gauges like 09-42 or 10-46 depending on your touch), a standard strap, and a quality 6.35 mm jack cable. Stiffer picks will highlight the attack and precision of the humbuckers, while softer picks will naturally soften the upper spectrum.
