The Les Paul Special Double Cut established itself as a more direct and edgy alternative to more luxurious models: mahogany construction, formidable ergonomics, and a biting sound thanks to the P-90s. This reissue continues the legacy of sixties collectible instruments, featuring an immediately recognizable TV Yellow finish and a sober aesthetic focused on the essentials: playing and attack.
Who is it for, and for which styles?
The 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cut Reissue is aimed at both intermediate guitarists and advanced musicians seeking an electric guitar with a fast feel. Its 60 SlimTaper neck profile favors tight rhythms, incisive blues licks, and rock phrasing with a pick. It excels in blues, rock, garage, punk, and indie, wherever a lively grain and a dynamic highly sensitive to right-hand intensity are desired.
The Tone
The combination of a mahogany body and mahogany neck provides a warm, dense foundation with excellent sustain and a generous midrange that cuts easily through a mix. The rosewood fingerboard slightly softens the attack while maintaining precision, ideal for taming the natural harmonics of the P-90s. The two P-90 Soapbar pickups deliver a wide spectrum: round and gritty clean tones, a very "vintage" edgy crunch, and a raw-sounding saturation with the typical bite of single-coils. The electronics (2 volumes, 2 tones) allow fine sculpting of output level and brightness, with excellent responsiveness when adjusting the potentiometers.
